Don't say "assassinated," Do say "murdered"

Don't say that:

Do say this:

The illegal killing of someone intending or reckless as to whether they would be killed by your actions is murder.

The method by which it is carried out does not change that simple fact: a murder is a murder.

An assassination is the murder of a senior political figure, ranging from a head of state down to a senior minister or an ambassador. For this purpose, a hereditary monarch, who is also head of state, is included.

However, an heir to the throne is not assassinated, nor is a junior minister nor the unelected head of a government department nor a prominent businessman, newspaper editor or anyone else.

Basically, Reigning kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers and cabinet minsters are assassinated. Everyone else is murdered.
