Mark Zuckerberg has still not quite got a handle on what it means to run a public company. He announces policy on the hoof and before even Facebook's Press Office and even the markets are informed. His latest whoopsie relates to suggestions that Facebook carried sufficient "fake news" to influence the 2016 US Presidential Election.

It all started as a bit of propaganda. Young Chinese who were not in settled relationships were fed up with being marked out as being a bit "odd." So they announced "Singles' Day" (a day for singles) to celebrate the fact that millions of Chinese are, well, single. Retailers, in the mid-year doldrums after all the various festivals have finished and with several months to go to Chinese New Year, got behind the idea with special offers and promotions. Within a couple of years, aided by the fact that the target audience is tech-savvy, it's turned into the world's biggest shopping day, dwarfing even the famed "Black Friday" in the USA.

More stories are coming in about IKEA and the way it treats its customers. A change in the colour of a product but describing it as the same colour is pretty close to everything bad a company can do to long term customers wanting to match existing furniture. See the pic to see just how bad this is.

Oh, shit. WTF am I going to do now? I mean, I wanted the job, of course I wanted the job. I've spend lots of my own money to make sure I got the job. My rival spent far more money, almost all of it other people's. That's the difference between a conservative and a socialist. But everyone around me, except for the usual yes-men, thought I wouldn't get it. I've no experience, no real contacts, in the field. I need serious guidance.
I have been an obnoxious, dishonest, devious person who has always got what she wants. But today, even though everyone I know told me I was going to get a new job, the recruitment panel rejected me in favour of a person I have insulted and humiliated and even lied about to make sure I beat him. What should I do now?

Prince Harry, the younger son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, has largely stayed out of the public eye. As he becomes increasingly remote from the prospects of succession to the Crown, there has been less interest in him. Until someone decided that the fact that he's got a girlfriend justified going postal on the two who, it has to be said, are not yet close enough to be termed "a couple." Here is a statement issued yesterday by Kensington Palace, the name given to the Royal Family's press office. It is notable that the wording is modern, trendy (quite unsuitable in many respects) English with words such as "co-workers" and the use of the term "Ms" and "in the hopes that." Or perhaps it was targetted at the American market. That's no doubt deliberate but it is, in our view, regrettable pandering as it does to the lowest common denominator media and bloggers which is where most of the trouble is coming from.

Case Summary:

Carl A Kemp described himself as a "lobbyist". The 43 year old lived in Long Beach California where he once stood for the city council. He ran a consultancy which promoted the interests of "head shops," that is illegal suppliers of marijuana who have public premises and don't do deals on street corners or stinky toilets at festivals. Many of them claim there is a constitutional right to consume marijuana and therefore there can be no offence of supply, others claim medicinal purposes. The reality under the law is simple: in California, the trade is illegal. Therefore the profits are illegal. And from there a chain of illegality begins.

After yesterday's article about IKEA's discriminatory practices, a reader contacted us to say that she was charged for the service at IKEA's Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shop but it didn't work.
